Ryan Huang, 15, is one of Canada’s leading young pianists. He is a Young Steinway Artist and a Young Scholar of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation. In 2026, Ryan became the first Canadian pianist to win First Prize at the Cleveland International Piano Competition for Young Artists, Junior Division, where he was also awarded the Audience Prize. That same year, he was named one of CBC Music’s 2026 “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30.” In recognition of his artistic achievements and contributions to the community, the Town of Oakville also named him a Music Ambassador for Oakville.
In 2025, Ryan was invited by Lang Lang to perform an encore at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s 30th Anniversary Concert at Roy Thomson Hall, where the performance received a standing ovation. As a Young Scholar of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation, he has participated in performances and musical initiatives internationally, including a special concert at the Great Wall of China, following which he was named a Young Ambassador of the Great Wall.
Ryan returned to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra stage in early 2026, performing Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor. In October 2026, he will present a solo recital as part of a concert series curated by renowned Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt and veteran CBC broadcaster Eric Friesen.
Ryan has been selected for several of North America’s distinguished young-artist programs, including Morningside Music Bridge and the Aspen Music Festival and School. Beginning in Fall 2026, he will attend the Pre-College Division of The Juilliard School in New York City.
A laureate of numerous international competitions, Ryan has received top prizes at the Nutcracker International Television Music Competition in Russia, Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth in Poland, Jeune Chopin International Piano Competition in Switzerland, Kaufman Music Center International Youth Piano Competition in the United States, and Euregio Piano Award in Germany, as well as the Canadian Music Competition and Steinway Junior Piano Competition in Canada.
Ryan made his debut at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium at the age of seven and gave his first solo recital at Shanghai Symphony Hall at eight. Since then, he has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras in Canada and internationally, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra, Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Vidin Symphony Orchestra, Oakville Symphony Orchestra, Oakville Chamber Orchestra, North York Concert Orchestra, Burlington New Millennium Orchestra, and Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra, as well as orchestras in Italy and Poland.
An alumnus of the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists, Ryan currently studies with Dr. Michael Berkovsky and receives additional guidance and mentorship from Dr. Marilyn Engle. During his formative years, beginning at age six, he studied with Dr. Olga Chichova.
Beyond the concert stage, Ryan is committed to sharing music with his community. He regularly performs in support of charitable causes and volunteers each week teaching music to elementary school students. Central to his musical journey is a belief that every child deserves the opportunity to discover the beauty of music and experience the joy of making music themselves.
